Bahama Bracket Hornets:
Time Trial -- 30 out of 43 (was even worse, but allowed to put better tires on. Tried car in 3rd gear - even after missing couple hot laps sessions due to arrival delay, rain, and "work" at track. Seemed to be slower, but according to watch, was almost .5 sec faster! Managed a 17.889 in the "Happy 1/2 hour" time trial session. Cost me $5, but was well worth it. Fastest we have ever timed that car. - JD)
Heat 03 -- 9th out of 10. (Was glad to beat Robby Robinson! Especially after botched start were he was supposed to start on pole and pretty scary to pass. Probably the only time I'll beat anyone from that family.)
Bee Bash 01 -- 6th out of 11 (Was as fast - if not faster - than two cars in front of me, but one was running high and one low. Did not have enough to squeeze through the middle. After they spread out some, thought I got 4th at the line, but I guess not.
Bee Last Chance 1 -- 9th out of 17 (Got a break before the green when car in front of me did not start. Moved up to 6th I believe, and got a good start to get up to at least 4th, but in the end, the faster cars found there way around...even though I was as "wide" as possible!)
Bee Foo Foo -- 4th out of 12 (Almost had a LeMans style start...running back to Cavalier after tower announced line-up was determined by order we arrived to line! Only race I can win with that car involves physical running, so took pride in pole position start. Managed to lead a lap or two, but could not hold off the three cars in the end.)
Didn't even want to run that car (wish I had my VW done!). Only bothered since didn't have to pay to get in and couldn't get help with the midget. Thought maybe could get a little more out of it with different tires and adjusted "set-up" (after Short Track wreck); and did, so can't really complain. Ran it as hard as I really could. Neat to get it into 3rd gear and 17.899 in qualifying! Some good racing with other cars Sunday and in the "bash" Saturday night. Walking through the pits on the beautiful sunny afternoon, among almost 200 racecars, I remembered there was no other place I'd rather be that day...besides Kokomo anyway! Had not paid the "brackets" any attention when I was younger, but it may have been when I was 16 and able to drive on my own, when I realized it is some of the best racing of the year! Like Scott Lawver's idea from victory lane, that the track should not charge much for admission and see if people will come watch and then be "hooked".
