By Jordan Kuehne:  It was only fitting that on the 2009 Wild Wednesday finale at the Rockford Speedway, the action ratcheted up a couple extra notches as “Chargin” Charlie Frisch put on a show, coming from the back to the front twice to edge out Gene Marocco for the win in the 25-lap Mtn Dew RoadRunner Super Summer Series headliner. Marocco would exact his revenge in the point standings though, holding off Frisch’s late efforts to claim the 2009 Mtn Dew RoadRunner Super Summer Series crown by just 31 points. In a wild Crap Scrappers Hornets feature event, two cars flipped and the leader crashed with just two laps remaining as Justin Pearson survived the carnage to claim the checkers...The action was fast and furious in the early stages of the 25-lap Mtn Dew RoadRunner Super Summer Series 2009 finale as “Captain” Chris Gantz and Jason Brockway battled side-by-side for the top position over the first ten laps while Charlie Frisch charged into third. Frisch fell back to sixth when he was turned sideways by Justin Hawkins (was it Justin? - JD)exiting turn two, enabling veteran driver and points leader Gene Marocco to grab the lead. Marocco worked over Gantz for the top spot, completing the pass with seven laps remaining. Seven laps was all “Chargin” Charlie needed though, as he worked his way from sixth to second before turning his sights toward Marocco. Frisch managed to get alongside Marocco for the lead with two circuits to go, completing an amazing comeback for what ended up being a bittersweet feature victory. While Marocco had to settle for second in the race, he held on to take home the 2009 Mtn Dew RoadRunner Super Summer Series championship over Frisch, the defending champion, by just 31 points...The Crap Scrappers Hornets 15-lap swarm got off to a wild start when Chandale Swartout flipped over driving through the Monza section on the first lap. Swartout managed to walk away unharmed but her night was over prematurely. On the ensuing restart, Randy Reynolds grabbed the top spot and was out front when Steve McBride and Jake Vicencio got together, sending another car flipping, this time McBride. McBride somehow managed to land upright and drive his car back into the pits. Reynolds was racing to a victory when, with just two laps remaining, he locked up the brakes entering turn three and smacked the wall, ending the race in ninth place (maybe good thing I didn't run the feature!  Sounded pretty wild...would have started outside row two though! - JD). Justin Pearson took advantage, inheriting the lead from Reynolds and holding off a late race charge from Vinny Mangiaracina for the victory...Tom Schneider was crowned the 2009 National Figure 8 League champion

Hornet Heat 01 -- 1. Roger Schultz, Rockford...7. Jason Dull, Machesney Park (led the first half of race before ELEMETARY mistake...ran out of gas!  I'm not saying the stupid "monza" coarse does any favors to the clutch, tires, and brakes on the bigger Cavalier, but I think we had most of them covered!  Did have a good start from front row, but was surprised the sled went through the infield as well as it did...considering I thought I was going to wreck in hot laps! - JD)...9 cars..

Challenge ("Outhouse" race) -- 1. Jason Dull, Machesney Park (finally found an event that was perfect for me!  Have watched this race for years and was never sure if I'd compete in it.  Got them by 2 seconds!  Glad it was worth that real nice 8 x 10 plaque I made...considering the 3/4 lap at speed I did make...after jumping infield hurdle - first time ever did that - taking mangled newspaper out of mailbox and then trying to get a little toilet tissue out of the port-o-Jon; was without HANS and seatbelts! - JD); 2. (Still upset I didn't get an interview or picture with car! A clean hat that I could have put all the way on would have been nice too.  Otherwise, I'll quit complaining... - JD)
