ALL OF THESE RACES WERE COMPETED AT ROCKFORD SPEEDWAY IN THE SLAMMER DIVISION.

May 16-Car: Malibu

FIRST FEATURE:  Spun out going for the lead.

SECOND FEATURE:  Pulled off while leading because I thought I got the black flag. (The Slammer Division has a lap time competition rule and I thought I had violated it, but it turned out another driver had.

May 25-Car: Malibu

FIRST FEATURE: Crashed and broke the steering shaft.

SECOND FEATURE: Had it welded up and started on the pole. Never was contested and got my first win.

JUNE 3-CAR: MALIBU

FIRST FEATURE: Didn’t see that a car wasn’t started and came off of the second corner on the the first lap and rear-ended the car.

SECOND FEATURE: We pulled the front end out, changed the water pump, fan, and radiator to finish second behind Rick Wishard..

JUNE 10-CAR:  CAPRICE

FIRST FEATURE: Bought this new car from my buddy Mark Atkins. It had power steering and I don’t like power steering so I didn’t run very well.

June 17-Car: Caprice

Won my second race. Had the point lead.

June 24-Car: Caprice

FIRST FEATURE: Quickly moved up to third but held back a little bit and got hit and spun out. I sat head-on into traffic in turn two for three laps until I finally got hit. After the race I charged the flagman, Tom Powell, to show him the yellow and got suspended from the second race.

July 4-Car: Caprice

FIRST FEATURE: Finished fourth.

SECOND FEATURE: Got spun out by another car midway through and had to race from the back twice to take another fourth.We put a new front end on the Malibu the day before and my pit man Greg Kienest drove it.

July 18-Car: Caprice

FIRST FEATURE: Ran fourth.

SECOND FEATURE: Got stuck behind Dean Barker, in a huge Cadillac, who took up the whole track, and got seventh in the second race. Let Greg drive the backup car again.

July 22-CAR: CAPRICE

FIRST FEATURE: Got third in the first race.

SECOND FEATURE: Finished fifth.

July 29-CAR: CAPRICE

FIRST AND SECOND FEATURE: Got second in both races

Aug 1-Car: Caprice

FIRST FEATURE: Recorded another win. This was my first win in front of a sold out crowd, for the trailer race night.

SECOND FEATURE: Got third.

Let my dad’s crewman-Andy Jones-drive the backup car.

AUG 12-CAR:  CAPRICE

FIRST FEATURE: Got my bumper knocked off. (Got black flagged).

SECOND FEATURE: Ran second.

Aug 26-Car:  Malibu

first race:  Put the good motor in the Malibu. Had two spark plug wires switched and ran last.

second race:  Got stuck behind a crashed car on the first lap and never caught the rest of the field.

Sep 7-Car: Malibu

first race:  Got my front bumper knocked off and pulled in.

Second Race:  Had to put a new fan on and strap up the bumper. Started on the pole and won.

Sep 19- Car:  Malibu

FIRST RACE:  There was a caution, and the officials thought I was leaking so they sent me into the pits. Nobody came around so I went back out as the race started. Passed some of the slower cars but got hit by Dean Barker in the Cadillac as his front tire went flat. Knocked the toe in. Finished in the back.

SECOND RACE:  Changed a tie rod and got back out. Ran three wide with Ron Young and his brother in their other car. Ron got by but crashed and I finished fourth.

Sep 26-CAR:  MALIBU

Special Event-Short Track Nationals.

FIRST FEATURE:  Ran sixth. Avoided like six accidents.

SECOND RACE:  Had an awesome start and got up the third right away. Finally passed the second place car when there was a huge pile-up. Had to restart on the inside and never got a good run on the winner, Tom Riccotta.
